Editorial standards

A conversion answer is useful only if its ingredient form, source measure, and arithmetic are visible and compatible. This page states the admission rule for every value the converter is allowed to use.

The public-data admission rule

The public converter currently contains 16 ingredient records. Each one must match an exact row in the cited source on all of these fields: ingredient form, household volume, and gram mass. The current candidate admits only source rows that state one cupand one gram value. It excludes source ranges, scaled tablespoon or fractional-cup rows, comparator-only matches, and inherited estimates.

The converter's stored grams-per-cup value must equal the source row's gram cell exactly. No tolerance, nearby value, midpoint, or editorial adjustment is allowed. The public table shows the row label, source volume, source ounces, source grams, source link, and access date.

Which cup the converter uses

King Arthur Baking's Recipe Success Guide describes its recipes as using American and metric measurements and directs volume users to dry or liquid measuring cups. This site interprets the chart's one-cup rows on that American measuring-cup basis. NIST Handbook 44 defines a measuring cup as eight US fluid ounces exactly.

For volume arithmetic, the converter uses 236.5882365 mL per US customary cup. The value is derived from NIST's exact definitions: one US gallon is 231 cubic inches, one cup is one-sixteenth of a gallon, and one inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters. The calculation is 231 × 2.54³ ÷ 16 = 236.5882365 mL. See NIST Handbook 44, Appendix C.

Source and form matching

Current public ingredient values come from the King Arthur Baking Ingredient Weight Chart. The source's row label is the public form contract. If it says “Confectioners' sugar (unsifted),” the record cannot be labeled sifted. If it says “Cornmeal (yellow, Quaker),” the value cannot be generalized to whole cornmeal or described as lying between unrelated rows.

The chart does not state a filling method for many rows. In those cases this site does not silently add spooned, scooped, leveled, sifted, packed, or poured handling. A method is repeated only when it appears in the exact source form, such as packed brown sugar or unsifted confectioners' sugar.

Source evidence and automated rejection

A checked source-evidence ledger stores the exact table cells used by the public records. The claim verifier requires one-to-one evidence use, exact form equality, exact mass equality, the one-cup source volume, the source URL and access date, and a direct-transcription derivation. Negative controls prove that a form mismatch, value mismatch, estimate, or unsupported evidence identifier fails the verifier.

A separate live source check fetches the public chart and compares the current table cells with the checked evidence ledger. That network check is distinct from the deterministic local ledger check so a temporary source outage cannot be confused with a valid local record.

Rounding and calculator output

Base grams-per-cup values are not rounded away from the source: the stored integer is the source's integer. Conversions to other units may produce decimals. The interface keeps full precision during arithmetic and rounds only the displayed result; a user should follow a recipe or package mass when it is more specific.

What we will not publish

Changes and corrections

Dataset and page changes remain traceable in source control. A future record may be added only with an exact public source row or a reproducible measurement record whose form, method, volume basis, observations, and receipt can be checked. Until that evidence exists, the converter stays narrower.

Advertising and independence

The site is connected to Google AdSense for verification and review, but it is not approved and no active ad unit is configured in this build. If real numeric ad-unit IDs are enabled after approval, the site will use no more than two units on a page, will not style an ad as content, and will keep ads outside conversion tables. There are no affiliate links or sponsored ingredient records.

Who is responsible

Ingredient Weight Converter is published by Nathan Management. Andrew Flores is responsible for what appears on it. Drafting and checking tools may assist, but they are not data sources and cannot establish a measurement. More context is on the about page.
